Vaikasi Visakam Day | Vaikasi Visakam Padha Yatra
During the month of Vaikasi (Vrishabam), the star Vishakam usually falls on the full moon day, marking the birth of Lord Subrahmanya, the second son of Lord Siva. He was born to protect the world from demons like Soorapadman. He emerged as six sparks from Siva's third eye and, passing through the elements, took form on earth. This divine form represents the five elements.
Lord Subrahmanya is known by many names such as Muruga, Karthikeya, Shanmugam, and Arumugam. With six faces, He is believed to see in all directions at once. Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated with great devotion at the six sacred abodes of Lord Muruga in Tamil Nadu and in Murugan temples worldwide, including SSVT.
